Okay so you might be one of these “Affiliate Marketing is dead” and then proceed to a quick sell on the new revolutionary money making product or system. Like I would do that. I’ve got a bit more self-respect than that my friends.
No this is a serious piece on why you should ignore the mass panic and hysteria that is currently going around the SEO blogs on the internet. It is quite funny and sad at the same time.
Penguin has arrived from Google and the rankings and listings are upside down, sideways and all over the place. The speculation over whether:
It’s all about keyword density
I was internally linking too much
I put a full stop in the wrong place
I used the wrong font
(Sorry, I made the last two up to illustrate the ridiculousness of it all)
So stop and think and listen. Google is experimenting and it is very clear (They have said this themselves) they are now targeting dodgy links and over optimized keyword links. The first hint was the Webmaster messages on your dashboards warning that you might have links they might see as ‘iffy’ and that you should get rid of them. So how many of you fell for that? Ever think it was a type of bait to see what got cut and then go after it? Or is my paranoid tin hat too big?
Next BMR got indexed overnight and Linkvana got hammered. Google had laid down its marker. Suddenly we all feel vey aggrieved and upset? Why? When you game a system like Google whatever hat you are, sooner or later the company (Whose listings it is anyway folks) armed with pretty much limitless resources to build technology is going to catch up. It’s an arms race.
So are backlinks dead? Nope and you shouldn’t see it that way either. It’s just that the intent and focus of these has changed. In fact it’s something that was mooted almost a year ago by some.
You have to forget rankings and the obsessions with being number 1. Sure there could be a huge traffic bump, but there is also a huge bounce and danger. You are always looking over your shoulder at Google and your competitor.
So why not just build quality premium backlinks build upon trust, quality and recommendation. This is more work for less links, but higher rewards. If you go out and write top drawer content you can get links from high profile and high domain authority sites back to you. You are now noticed and you have connected with a big influencer. Imagine if you can do that 50 times?
What you get is visits from real people who were actually interested in what you said or sold. Real people who mostly all have Facebook, Twitter and other social accounts which in turn influence Google.
The range of your reach increases and the stability of your business in Google is better and more legitimate. Now there are human links created naturally that attracted real human visitors. Yes you can Fiverr 1000 likes, but they are fake and benefit you very little in the ling run, that is if you want a long term sustainable income business.
